The book is written to understand the basic principles of geological maps. The rocks (beds) exposed in the crust of the earth and their outcrop patterns are developed in a systematic manner. The several variables controlling the outcrops of rocks have been dealt with in the book. Some amount of simplification has been found essential. The more regular situations have been considered in the book. Unless the simpler structures and the outcrop patterns are not understood the more complicated types met with the most of the earth cannot be deciphered. The book deals with the methodology of solving the geological maps. Actual maps though not given in the book it is possible to extend the methodology described in the book to any geological map. It is not enough to decipher in the maps but one should be in a position to construct the geological map from the given data. Keeping. This in view the book therefore is set into 2 sections namely How to solve the geological maps and How to construct the geological maps. Illustrative maps have been given to elucidate methodology for both the sections.
