With new discoveries and overseas ventures by ONGC and other oil producing organizations, present production is better than what it was four decades ago. The new technologies in discoveries and refining methods have totally revolutionalised the industry. The Euro specifications, EPA – Clean Air acts have prompted the refiners to go for Hydro treatment techniques. The growing automobile and aviation industries have significantly changed the role of refiners. The lighter fractions have also become the need of the day which necessitated instituting more FCCs in refineries. With the simultaneous progress of Petrochemical Industry, the production and selection of feed stocks have gained prominence. The development of KG and Andaman Basin should be taken on priority. The establishment of several Gas Crackers for the production of olefins should also be taken as a priority, so that India can become hub of petrochemical activity of South-eastern countries.Like earlier, encouragement from the industry and the students has prompted me to update this book. The present (Sixth Edition) is a value added text and taken care of many aspects of modern refining and Indian Industry and I am sure readers will appreciate it.
